Although astronomical summer ends on September 22, Bulgaria is still experiencing summer-like conditions, said Dr. Anastasia Stoycheva from NIMH on NOVA. Next week, highs will remain between 28–33°C, with lows above 15°C, and in coastal areas often above 20°C. Rain will be scarce and mostly limited to Western mountain regions early in the week. Along the Black Sea, the forecast is for sunny weather, calm seas, and water temperatures around 25°C.
“Those planning a late summer holiday at the coast can do so without worries. Significant rainfall is not expected, and conditions will stay pleasant for the beach,” Stoycheva noted.
The outlook for the first school day remains uncertain, though models lean toward stable, dry weather. Around September 18, however, a passing front may bring the first notable autumn rains.
Early projections suggest a warmer-than-usual autumn. September through November is expected to be drier and hotter than average, raising concern over prolonged drought. Summer already confirmed this trend: temperatures exceeded norms by up to 3°C, while rainfall dropped below 20% of usual levels in many regions, except in the southwest and mountain areas, where precipitation was slightly above average.
