During excavations at the forum of Heraclea Sintica, led by Prof. Lyudmil Vagalinski (NAIM-BAS), archaeologists uncovered geometric patterns while clearing the mosaic floor of a monumental building. Above the marble base along the walls, traces of colorful plaster were discovered, fragments of which had fallen onto the mosaic, reports Archaeologia Bulgarica.
The team also completed the complex process of packing and relocating an exceptionally important inscription. First deciphered and published at its discovery by Assoc. Prof. Nikolay Sharankov (Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”), the text honors one of the most distinguished generals and administrators in Roman history — Decimus Terentius Gentianus.
