According to a report by the European Environment Agency (EEA), Bulgaria ranks second among EU countries in terms of bathing water quality for 2024. Only Cyprus has higher-rated waters — 99.2%, compared to Bulgaria’s 97.9%.
A total of 96 bathing sites were inspected — 92 along the Black Sea coast and 4 inland. Of these:
– 94 received an “excellent” rating (97.9%)
– 1 was rated “good” (1%)
– 1 was rated “sufficient” (1%)
– None were rated as “poor”
Waters around the town of Primorsko, especially near Maslen Nos (Cape Maslen), were found to be among the cleanest, with up to 99.4% purity.
The mayor of Primorsko, Ivan Gaikov, emphasized the importance of modern water treatment plants and protected nature zones that help maintain this high level of water cleanliness.
