Cold Front Brings Rain, Then Sun
Today a cold atmospheric front will pass over the country, bringing increasing clouds from west to east. Showers are expected in western and central regions, heavier in the east where thunderstorms are also likely. By the afternoon, skies over the northwest will begin to clear with sunny intervals.
Winds will blow moderately from the northwest, shifting to east-southeast in Eastern Bulgaria. Maximum temperatures will range from 25°C to 30°C, about 25°C in Sofia.
Along the Black Sea coast: Clouds will be significant, becoming cumulus and cumulonimbus later. Short showers and thunderstorms are expected, with moderate northeast winds. Highs will reach 24–27°C. Sea temperature is 25–26°C, waves 2–3 on the Beaufort scale.
In the mountains: Mostly cloudy with scattered rain and storms. A moderate to strong west-northwest wind will blow. Highs: about 18°C at 1200 m, 12°C at 2000 m.
Outlook:
Tuesday (Aug 26) – More sunshine, some afternoon clouds over southern Bulgaria, mostly dry except for isolated mountain showers.
Wednesday (Aug 27) – Predominantly sunny, light to moderate east wind, with temperatures gradually rising.
