The Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Bulgarian Posts are tightening security measures around the exchange of Bulgarian lev to euro in small towns and villages. Authorities are preparing to respond to potential risks near postal offices to ensure citizens can safely convert their money.
Investigators and the Economic Police are monitoring for fraud during the exchange process. So far, over 600 operations have been carried out targeting online scams and counterfeit currency. These efforts have led to the initiation of 100 pre-trial proceedings.
Contracts have also been signed for the supply of counterfeit detection devices, barcode scanners, and machines that will automate the counting of coins and banknotes. These upgrades aim to streamline operations within Bulgarian Posts, Nova reports.
