Starting tomorrow, training sessions will begin for medical specialists working in kindergartens and schools across the country. Children’s health-prevention cards can now be issued electronically.
This was announced after a joint meeting between Health Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sylvi Kirilov, Minister of E-Government Valentin Mundrov, “Information Services” JSC, the Bulgarian Medical Association, and the National Association of General Practitioners.
Minister Kirilov emphasized that digitalization is a top priority: the aim is to gradually reduce administrative burdens for doctors while simplifying procedures for parents. Minister Mundrov added that removing paper health cards fulfills a commitment both to parents and medical professionals, with further upgrades to the system underway.
The platform, demonstrated during the meeting, will provide access to children’s medical check-up data in school health offices. In parallel, amendments to Regulation №3 remove the requirement for “contact notes” confirming absence of exposure to infectious disease.
Historical vaccination data is currently being transferred from the National Health Insurance Fund to the National Health Information System (NHIS), with completion expected by mid-September.
Although electronic access for school health staff was originally planned for September 1, 2025, its implementation has been postponed. Until the system is fully functional, required medical documents must still be submitted on paper.
For now, only sickness absence notes remain mandatory for schoolchildren.
