Suspected Illegal Trade on Bulgaria–Greece Border
The Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry has asked Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue to monitor trucks traveling between Greece and Bulgaria for possible illegal imports and exports.
Chamber President Yannis Masoutis sent a letter to the tax authority reporting complaints from many members that goods are crossing the border in both directions without invoices, BGNES reported.
Since Bulgaria joined the Schengen Area on January 1, 2025, there is no longer routine border control between the two countries, raising concerns about unregulated trade flows.
